Fun With NBSR

These are just a few of the events that the Northern Beaches Social Riders have been up to.

NBSR’s 5th Birthday Party, July 2009
We couldn’t have asked for a better day to celebrate our 5th Birthday. A perfect blue sky without a cloud in sight. With
the bbq fired up, tea & coffee all around, the kids (& some adults) played volleyball, fished, blew bubbles while others
enjoyed the warmth of the sun & some conversation. There was something for everyone. With some speeches & a
presentation of a five year badge for those members that have been a part of NBSR since the beginning it was then time for dessert .

Go-Karting At Wilberforce, August 2009
On a glorious winters day we decided to ride out to Wilberforce for a day of hopefully not too many spills & try our
hand at go-karting. After watching some of the other drivers do some laps it was our turn & right from the start it was
every man, woman & child for themselves. Plenty of laughter was had especially once you found out if your cart had
brakes or not. We headed off to Pitt Town Sporting Club for lunch where the laughs continued.

Blood & Guts Run, September 2009
We set off for our third Blood & Guts run. On to Glenbrook for breakfast & some fun in the park, it was then off to
Nepean Hospital to donate blood. Everyone was in fine form, plenty of laughter & jokes going around especially
as the needles went in. A couple of hours later after we were all full of milkshakes, crackers & cheese, jelly beans
& Tim Tams we were off.

Halloween, October 2009
What a night! The scene & atmosphere was set with the mist & fog filling the air. There were goons, ghouls, mummies,
devils, Frankenstein, goblins floating above your head & the sounds coming from the graveyard would send shivers
down your spine. A night with lots guessing as to who was who under their disguises, lots of food everywhere, plenty
of chatting, dancing, laughing & people ending up in the pool.

We stepped out all in ‘blue’ down to the Harbord Diggers to support two of our own members about to embark on a six
month journey around the world on their bikes to raise awareness of Youth Mental Health, Youth Depression and Youth
Suicide. The night had everything from great entertainment by The 3tles & The Vicky Turner Band as well as some
colourful Bollywood dancers. There was a couple of auctions, great food & as always plenty of laughs & great company.
Good Luck Joe & Ray!!

Berrima Ride, May
2010
With no other plans for the weekend it was decided to go for a ride to Berrima. We were very pleased to have Ryan,
one of our YOTS recipients join us for the day. We looked around town, bought a few lollies, tried on a few hats,
grabbed a pie & sat down in the park to soak up the sun.

War Vets Open Day, June
2010
This has become an annual event for our club. Meeting at the Terrey Hills Tavern, we were all keen to provide some
of our cherished Veterans with a day they would be talking about for a while. Upon arriving & with all doors open it
enabled us to get the bikes into the rooms & allow those who wanted their picture taken on a bike to do so. A highlight
of the day was meeting a truly inspirational lady, Mrs Maze, who has flown planes & to top it off showed us her
motorcycle riders licence dated 1942 along with a fuel coupon for one gallon of fuel. The stories they shared about their
life’s journeys were amazing.

crowd of family & friends, Father Chris Riley, Col Joye with his wife & ukulele in hand preformed the best rendition of a personalised “Happy Birthday” followed by “Bye Bye Baby” & “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. What a truly special day!

Ten Pin Bowling, July 2010

We all gathered at the Dee Why RSL Ten Pin Bowling Alley set to send the pins flying & compete for the trophies, & with
last year’s champions out with injuries the trophies were there for the taking. What excitement, NBSR took over several
lanes & the friendly competition was underway. Strikes, near misses, bumper shots, complete misses, all receiving huge
rounds of applause.
